Spring 2026 Student Editorial Staff

Micah Aamon (they/he) is a senior majoring in political science with a minor in Legal Studies. Their interest in human rights is centered around the struggles of black and indigenous people in the United States, and the lasting effects of colonialism in Africa. Micah is also interested in the rights of incarcerated individuals and voting rights.

Guilllermo Hernandez is a junior at UNCA majoring in both Mass Communication and Political Science. He is interested in how the media spreads information and its impact on our connection to each other, the stories of human rights violations that can be spread on social media to feature film collections of a tragedy across borders or here locally.  

Amelia Benjamin (she/her) is a senior double-majoring in History and Religious Studies at UNC Asheville. Her studies in social and cultural history have been conducive to an exploration of human rights disparities, specifically how they are facilitated and perpetuated across societies and cultures amidst their respective historical contexts—an undertaking that lends itself to addressing contemporary human rights issues on a global scale.

Kora Bohland (she/her) is a fourth year at UNCA, majoring in Psychology with a minor in Political Science. Working an after school program made her realize how much she enjoyed working with children, which she plans to do internationally after graduating. Her passions are film and literature, and its ability to liberate future generations through the art of storytelling.


Micki Cody (they/them) is a senior at UNC Asheville majoring in history. Their studies focus on Western Europe with an emphasis on infrastructure and sexual, ethnic, and religious minorities. Micki’s interest in human rights spans centuries, from minority status in the Ottoman Empire to worker’s rights in 1900s America.

Marcos Martinez (he/him) is a junior at UNC Asheville majoring in Drama and Political Science. He is interested in analyzing and tackling racial injustice in societal institutions such as in higher education, entertainment, medicine, and politics. He is also interested in promoting visibility and empathy towards these injustices through his own public work as an organizer and artist.

Rae McNulty (she/her) is an alum of UNC Asheville, with a B.A. in Political Science. Her interests center on the intersection of political psychology and human rights, with a particular focus on how political beliefs shape and drive social justice movements. Through her studies, she aims to better understand the mechanisms behind political action and the pursuit of equity across diverse communities.

Madi Posey (she/her) is a senior at UNC Asheville majoring in History with a Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies minor. Her interest in human rights primarily revolves around the work of intersectional movements on the global stage.

Madeline Surber (He/they) is a senior at UNC Asheville majoring in Political Science and English. He is especially interested in land and environmental rights, and LGBT human rights. They intend to pursue a law degree after graduation.

Ana Baskerville is a Junior at UNCA majoring in Political Science. She has an interest in policy, with a focus on human rights and criminal/procedural rights. How we treat those accused of or convicted of criminal charges serves as a bottom line of human rights in many places, her research searches to bring attention to places in which this bottom line is in violation of international treaties.

Courtney Clarke (she/her) is a senior at UNC Asheville majoring in Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental Management and Policy. Her interest in human rights centers on environmental justice and the ways environmental harm disproportionately impacts marginalized and underserved communities. She is particularly interested in the role of law and policy in addressing these inequities.

Edvin Grolimund (He/Him) holds a B.A in Political Science and is currently pursuing a second degree in History at UNC Asheville. His interest in human rights centers around the economic forces and structures that undermine the value of human life across the globe.

Izzie Raustol (she/her) is a junior at UNCA double-majoring in Political Science and Global Studies and minoring in Computer Science and Human Rights Studies. She is most passionate about combating the global powers funding genocide in systematically oppressed countries. In addition, she is passionate about protecting the human rights of those incarcerated in the U.S. and bettering the education system for the youth.

Jay Scantlin (He/Him) is a junior at UNCA, double-majoring in Economics and Political Science, minoring in Global Studies. His studies focus on Comparative Legislation, the Global Economy, Corporate violations of Human Rights, Workers’ Rights, and the expansion of Economic Rights in the postcolonial world. He is particularly interested in supply chain legislation and reform to prevent Human Rights abuses and to mitigate negative environmental impacts, as well as shifting away from the practice of companies voluntarily observing Human Rights, to the legally mandated observation of Human Rights.

Cameron Vega (they/them) is a junior transfer student majoring in Political Science with a minor in French. Their main focus is international diplomacy with a specialization in disability rights and French Politics
